Conversion of Former Bank into a 239-Bedroom Hotel

Client: Edgewater Contracts

Torc was appointed to support the transformation of a former City of London bank into a new 239-bedroom hotel. The scheme required a complete internal reconfiguration, new structural interfaces, and high-quality interior finishes to meet the expectations of a modern hospitality offering within a heritage commercial shell.

Torc’s Contribution

Torc delivered a multi-disciplinary package across drylining, steel-formed systems, decoration, rendering and specialist encasements. The project required accuracy, strict sequencing, and strong coordination with the structural and façade teams, given the building’s complex geometry and change-of-use programme.

Drylining (Steel Formed Sections & Siniat Board)

We installed a complete drylining system using steel-formed sections and Siniat boards, providing robust partitions, service voids, and wall linings throughout the new hotel rooms and corridors. This formed the foundation for acoustic performance, fire integrity, and high-quality decorative finishes.

Decoration

Torc delivered the complete decorative package across guestrooms, corridors and public spaces, applying durable hospitality-grade finishes designed for long-term performance and a clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Mansard SFS (Steel Formed Sections)

Our team installed new SFS construction to form the building’s mansard elements. This involved precise alignment with the existing roof structure and integration with insulation, sheathing, and weathering requirements to create a stable and compliant external envelope.

Rendering (K Rend)

We carried out external rendering using K Rend systems, providing a clean, durable façade finish that complements the hotel’s architectural identity and offers strong weather resistance.

Beam Encasements (Glasroc)

Torc installed Glasroc beam encasements to deliver fire protection to exposed structural steelwork. Each section was measured, cut, and fitted to ensure compliance, continuity and a seamless interface with surrounding finishes.

Torc’s involvement supported the client’s vision of converting a complex commercial structure into a modern, high-performance hotel environment built for longevity.
